Critical Connections Book (Routledge)

Multilingual Digital Stories from Goldsmiths Critical Connections Project

Companion site to a new book to be published by Routledge, ‘Multilingual Digital Storytelling: Engaging creatively and critically with literacy’, edited by Dr Jim Anderson and Dr Vicky Macleroy.

This two year project (2012-2014), funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, was carried out collaboratively by Goldsmiths (University of London) researchers with  teachers and students in mainstream and community-based complementary schools in and around London as well as overseas. It involved a range of foreign and community/heritage languages (Arabic, Croatian, Chinese, French, German, Greek) as well as English and English as an Additional Language. It also involved teachers from other curriculum areas including drama, music and ICT.

This Vimeo site is a companion resource to the book where we have housed the main digital stories referred to as well as a film made at the second film festival capturing a range of views. The films have been made using a range of software (Photostory 3, Microsoft Powerpoint, Microsoft Moviemaker). Most are in bilingual version with subtitles in English and cover a range of genres. A short introduction is provided before each film.

We would like to express our gratitude to teachers and students for allowing their work to be posted on this site.

From September 2015 a new two-year project will be starting. Key partners will be the British Film Institute, Museum of London and the National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education.
