Film 7 – Secondary College of Languages, Australia – Water Pollution in Vietnam

Languages: Vietnamese and English

The year 11 Vietnamese students (Stage 6) at the Secondary College of Languages Australia have engaged in the Critical Connections Project run by Goldsmiths, University of London. Our class has created a video that focuses on the issue of water pollution in Vietnam. The video is an interview, in which two of us interview other students for their opinions on the issue. We role play different characters such as interviewers, doctor, nurse, patient, scientist, teacher, student, gardener, and plumber. Through these roles, we discuss the dramatic effects that water pollution has on the environment and communities in Vietnam and then provide solutions to the problem.

Film 8 – Shirasu Bunko, UK – Isn’t it great? – Hokusai’s waves and our Mt Fuji

Languages: Japanese and English

We are introducing new aspects of world-renowned Hokusai’s ‘The Great Wave’.  Do you know what else is painted apart from the great wave?  Do you know the original title of this artwork?  Do you know when this artwork was created and possibly why?  Together with the music composed and played by the students for this project, we proudly present our study of a great cultural heritage which is connecting Japan and overseas. The sound of the sea was specially recorded in Japan by the mother of our student at the same bay where Hokusai saw Mt Fuji.

Film 9 – SJK (T) Masai, Malaysia – Warriors of Cameron

Languages: Semai, Tamil, Bahasa Melayu and English

This film is about the journey of a plastic bottle which has been used and thrown away by a tourist. A group of indigenous students found the bottle near a village in the Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. Cameron Highlands is a popular tourist destination known for its natural beauty. However, they have faced garbage pollution in the area. The indigenous community is concerned about the impact of garbage pollution. A team known as Eco Pahlawan helped the indigenous students to clean their area and made hand-made crafts using recycled materials. At the end, the village leader praised and thanked the team for their contribution to cleanliness.

Film 10 – Secondary College of Languages, Australia – Branqueamento de Recifes de Coral – Coral Reef Bleaching

Languages: Portuguese and English

This year, stage 4 and 5 Portuguese of the Secondary College of Languages Petersham Campus from Australia continued our look at environmental issues in our modern world, with a specific focus on the issue of coral reef bleaching in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef for Goldsmiths, University of London’s Critical Connection Project. The video explores the different causes of coral reef bleaching, as well as the many solutions that may be explored in order for us to solve it as a global community. This activity links
our term 1 topic of ‘Community and Citizenship’ with term 2’s topic of ‘Knowledge’ and explores how we can use information and technology to better understand solutions to environmental issues around the world – thus becoming better global citizens, as it is everyone’s responsibility to help make the world a
better place for the global community.

Film 11 – Third Primary School of Paphos, Cyprus – Το Σπίτι μας (TO SPITI MAS) Our home

Languages: Greek, Russian, Bulgarian, Arabic, English

In this digital story, you will watch a group of friends discuss a new challenge that has been making the
rounds on Instagram lately. So, we will see the students’ thoughts about what their home is; mostly
a beautiful peaceful place where they feel loved and safe. In the end, they summarise that the home for all people is Planet Earth, which should also be a clean and safe place where everyone will feel good and happy.

Film 12 – Camões UK – O Tigre e o Homem Estranho/The Tiger and the Strange Man

Languages: Portuguese and English

The Tiger and the Strange Man is digital story inspired by the wordless picture book “Sonho”, by Susa Monteiro. Camões’ students started this project by making up a story for the book. Along the creative process, they were able to tell different stories with different endings and plot twists. Then, they named and created the characters and all the scenarios. They also decided how to take the pictures and what needed to be readjusted once the film was finished. This story tells us about the beauty of “Our Planet”.
