Welcome to the ‘Re-imagining Adolescent Wellbeing (RAW) Sunshine Film Screening 2024’ which is hosted at Goldsmiths, University of London and brings together digital stories from young people. This young adult literature and filmmaking project is part of the global literacy project, Critical Connections. The Sunshine Film Screening forms part of the ‘Care, Community and Hope Festival 2024’ at Goldsmiths.
The young filmmakers read the graphic novel, Sunshine (2023) by Jarrett. J. Krosoczka, which is a true story about volunteering at a summer camp for children with cancer and their families. In collaborative online workshops across four countries (India, Italy, Taiwan, and UK), these young people learnt and experimented with using comics language and creative writing to respond to texts about pain and
re-imagine their own stories of adolescent well-being, resilience and hope. These films tell vibrant multilingual stories about actions that matter and how young people are finding ways to resolve conflicts, find hope, and form strong bonds and friendships. There are 11 languages included across the 9 digital stories exhibited at the online Sunshine Film Screening 2024. Lead educators have worked with young participants (12-18 years old) across four secondary schools.
The film screening is edited by Philip Kapadia
