‘Anfal’s painting was inspired by ‘Ba Ayoon El-Akhbar’ by Ali Omar Ermes and features the same ‘Ba’ letter shape as in the work by Ermes.

a) The large figure in gold at the centre of Ba Ayoon is the Arabic letter, Ba, equivalent to the English letter ‘b’. Anfal also makes this the focal point of her work

b) Ba Ayoon contains poetic inscriptions by famous Arab poet, Abi Hemam al-Merri. The theme has to do with taking responsibility rather than blaming others. The poem in Anfal’s painting is her own and relates the message in Abi Hemam al-Merri’s poetry to her concern about protecting the environment.

This is the poster with the poem that speaks about blaming yourself before blaming others. The poster is inspired by Ali Omar Ermes’ painting Ba Ayoon El-Akhbaar Ali Omar Ermes used a lot of colours to create a mood (sometimes mysterious) in his artwork. In my art piece, I have used warm, dark and cool colours to express my emotions towards the topics I am discussing such as war, pollution, poverty and crime. Colour allows me to create my own individuality and flare. Since I was a child, I have been really excited for the painting part of my art, I really enjoyed it, as it evokes a certain mood and creates a message and sharp response to the viewer. Ali Omar Ermes’s work inspired me to make a poster and add my personal touch which is how I feel about the small and big problems in the world that people are blaming each other for. We shouldn’t hold anyone accountable for their actions , right or wrong. It’s not up to us to judge. The blood at the bottom of the letter “ب” , is caused by the knife that stabbed it, the fact that it’s coming out of the world suggests that the crime in our planet is passing its limits and the blood that is constantly spilling suggests that the crime is also out of control . The fire that is drawn on the planet is a symbolisation of human sins. The main purpose of the hellfire is that in afterlife the punishment that exists for those who commit sins in today’s life. The colours used “orange and yellow” symbolise freedom, but unfortunately that freedom is taken away from us because of the horrible judgments that are made. The eagle that is drawn in a form of a tree with naked branches that is then transformed to living birds that are drawn on the top right of the poster symbolises that “ان بعد العسر يسر” (after every hardship there is an ease) . We need to always remember that no matter how many problems you have, the day will come when they will all disappear . The girl in black symbolises the sufferings of the poor in our society. The broken heart that is then reconstructed links to the broken heart of those who suffer in war, injustice and blame, no matter what they still have hope in god. In conclusion I would like to address everyone that this life is not worth getting the blame for things you haven’t done purposefully. Life is lost minute by minute. Let’s make the most of it. My art piece named ‘Why not a peaceful world?’ talks about the big and small problems in the world that are growing each day, minute by minute. This artwork was one of my favourites, I had a chance to share it with my school mates (in my mainstream school) and most importantly my Art teacher. They were all very pleased by the work after I explained the importance of the topics and the importance of the Arabic language to me. I have also informed them about ‘MDST’ lesson and how it creates motivation to a student to boost their confidence. They have shared some amazing comments that made me feel even prouder of my home language.

هذا هو الملصق مع القصيدة التي تتحدث عن لوم نفسك قبل لوم الآخرين.علي عمر ارميص استعمل الكثير من الألوان لخلق حالة مزاجية (غامضة احيانًا) في أعماله الفنية. في عملي الفني، استخدمت ألوان دافئة و داكنة و باردة للتعبير عن مشاعري اتجاه الموضوع الذي أناقشه مثل الحرب و الفقر و الجرائم. الألوان تسمح لي بإنشاء هويتي الخاصة و انطلاق. منذ ان كنت طفلة ،استمتعت حقاً بالرسم ، لأنه يثير مزاجا معينا و يخلق رسالة و استجابة حادة للمشاهد. ألهمني عمل علي عمر إرميس لعمل ملصق وإضافة لمستي الشخصية وهو ما أشعر به حيال المشاكل الصغيرة والكبيرة في العالم التي يلوم الناس بعضهم البعض عليها. يجب ألا نحاسب أي شخص على أفعاله ، سواء كانت صحيحة أو خاطئة. لا يعود الأمر إلينا للحكم. الدم في الجزء السفلي من الحرف “ب” سببه السكين الذي طعنه ، وحقيقة أنه يخرج من العالم تشير إلى أن الجريمة في كوكبنا تتجاوز حدودها والدم الذي يراق باستمرار يشير إلى ذلك الجريمة أيضا خارجة عن السيطرة إن النار التي تُشعل على الكوكب هي رمز لخطايا البشر. الغرض الرئيسي من نار الجحيم هو أنه في الحياة الآخرة العقوبة الموجودة لأولئك الذين يرتكبون خطايا في حياة اليوم. الألوان المستخدمة “البرتقالي والأصفر” ترمز إلى الحرية ، ولكن للأسف هذه الحرية تنتزع منا بسبب الأحكام الرهيبة التي تصدر. يرمز النسر المرسوم على شكل شجرة بأغصان عارية ثم يتحول إلى طيور حية مرسومة في أعلى يمين الملصق إلى “أن بعد العسر يسر” (بعد كل مشقة هناك راحة). علينا أن نتذكر دائمًا أنه بغض النظر عن عدد المشاكل التي تواجهها ، سيأتي اليوم الذي تختفي فيه جميعًا. ترمز الفتاة ذات الرداء الأسود إلى معاناة الفقراء في مجتمعنا. يرتبط القلب المكسور الذي أعيد بناؤه بعد ذلك بالقلب المكسور لأولئك الذين يعانون في الحرب والظلم واللوم ، بالرغم من ذالك كله فلا يزال لديهم أمل في الله. في الختام ، أود أن أخاطب الجميع بأن هذه الحياة لا تستحق اللوم على أشياء لم تفعلها بشكل هادف. تضيع الحياة دقيقة بدقيقة. فلنستفيد منها إلى أقصى حد. في عملي الفني ” لما لاينتشر السلام في العالم ” يتحدث عن المشاكل الكبيرة و الصغيرة في العالم التي تتزايد كل يوم دقيقة بدقيقة. هذا العمل الفني هو احدى الاعمال المفضلة لدي. لقد اتيحت لي فرصة لمشاركتها مع زملائي في المدرسة الانجليزية و الأهم من ذالك ، مدرسي للفنون. حيث كان الجميع مسرورا بالعمل بعد ان أوضحت أهمية الموضوعات و أهمية اللغة العربية بالنسبة لي. لقد شرحت عن تدريس القصة الرقمية الحديثة و كيف تخلق التحفيز و تعزز الثقة بالنفس. لقد شاركوا ببعض التعليقات الرائعة التي جعلتني اشعر بالفخر الكبير بلغة الأم ( اللغة العربية).

Of Algerian background, Sobhia Anfal Boularas, now aged sixteen, was born and grew up in the UK. She speaks Arabic at home and has attended the Peace School for the past two and a half years. Her level in Arabic is post GCSE and she is currently working towards GCSE in Art & Design.
